We bring participants to galleries that showcase visual art, such as paintings, sculptures, and installations. Within this immersive art experience, we invite the group to write captivating stories inspired by the artwork and their own imagination.

MEET THE CREATOR
Hey, I’m Kate
My writing journey was set in motion by the vivid dreams that danced and sometimes crept through my childhood nights, each one a tapestry of colors, characters, movement, and emotions. These dreams eventually became the catalyst for my storytelling, fueling my imagination and inspiring me to weave stories - stories that I was proud of and wanted to share.
However, my relationship with writing took a sharp turn in sixth grade when I was shamed for my unique writing style. The criticism silenced me. It wasn't until much later, at 28 years old, standing before a classroom of curious fourth-graders, I found myself drawn back to the world of imagination and wonder that had captivated me as a child.
It was during this time that I explored what is called “imagery writing” with my fourth-graders.
This approach, rooted in the power of sensory detail and personal connection - creating a movie in a reader’s mind - took on a new dimension as I flipped the script, inviting children to find stories within art pieces/imagery.
This process tapped into their imaginations, allowing them to connect with their personal experiences and memories while creating worlds of their own. The therapeutic nature of this approach was evident as my students eagerly embraced the opportunity to share their stories!
Gallery Tales has since emerged from a desire to break free from the confines of traditional education and embrace the transformative power of creative expression.
In a system often focused on rigid rubrics and predetermined outcomes, Gallery Tales offers a liberating space for children to delve into the depths of their psyche, drawing inspiration from the art that surrounds them. It's a therapeutic voyage of self-expression and discovery, where each brushstroke and word holds the power to unlock hidden worlds within.
Beyond nurturing writing skills, Gallery Tales serves as a gateway to a wealth of background knowledge gained through exposure to artworks and the community of artists. By immersing children in art and culture, we not only foster their literacy, but also cultivate their curiosity and understanding of the world around them.
Through Gallery Tales, we invite children to open their minds, connect with themselves, and unleash the stories waiting to be told.
It's a journey of empowerment, growth, and endless possibilities—a journey that I am deeply honored to do alongside every young storyteller.
